IS Receives the Eco Schools' Green Flag Award!
We are delighted to announce that International School (IS) has been awarded the Eco Schools' Green Flag award! This is in recognition of the progress and hard work of the students and staff involved in the process of gaining this accreditation over the last two years.
This journey began in September of 2019 when the ISM High School (HS) Sustainability Council put forward a proposal to become part of the Eco Schools program, the largest sustainable schools program in the world. Combining forces with the Middle School (MS) Eco Council and the Elementary School (ES) Eco Warriors to make up the Eco Schools Committee, they worked together to achieve the same goals. Despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic, they pushed ahead and met every month, making steady progress over the two-year period.
After each division went over the ten sustainability areas, through a democratic process, the three areas of focus selected were: Biodiversity, Water and Waste. The program involved creating an action plan of projects related to each area, working on and monitoring progress on these, while still working to incorporate this within the curriculum through ES, MS and HS as well as to involve the community. The final step involves the creation of an 'Eco Code' as seen below. Together, we will continue our efforts for a more sustainable future and help each of us to do our part in saving the planet.
Congratulations to all students and staff involved in obtaining the Green Flag award!
